Steering and Tie Rod Tools

The steering tie rod is an important part of the steering mechanism of the car, which directly affects the stability of the car's operation, the safety of operation and the service life of the tires. There are 2 types of steering tie rods, namely steering straight tie rods and steering cross tie rods. The straight steering tie rod is responsible for transmitting the motion of the steering rocker arm to the steering knuckle arm; the steering cross tie rod is the bottom edge of the steering trapezoid mechanism, which is the key component to ensure the correct motion relationship between the left and right steering wheels.

Replacing the tie rods begins by lifting the car with a jack, removing the wheels and contacting the steering knuckle. The outer tie rod is connected to the steering knuckle and the inner tie rod is located under the car at the end of the outer tie rod. Use a tie rod removal kit to remove the tie rod from the steering knuckle or ball joint. When installing a new steering tie rod, tighten all nuts to ensure there is no slack. It may be necessary to replace both sides at the same time.

As long as the rubber sleeve is not damaged, grease is not dry, the ball is not loose, the tie rod is not collision deformation, the vehicle's steering ball head can continue to use without replacement. Just pay attention to check it every time you do maintenance.
